Dana Donovan continues to be one of
my favorite authors. The story line in this book was different different then
any I have read before and enjoyed every second of it. The circus was certainly
a different location from Dana's other works and we got a glimpse of life in
the circus with all the twists and turns and intrigue. Dana has 2 story lines
running and manages to keep them both interesting. I was missing Lilith and
Tony's interaction in the beginning of the book but soon there was plenty of
two of my favorite people. Of course there is also Tony and Carlos. They make
me laugh and want to keep reading. I loved this book and hope there is another
in the works in the future

I like the way it picks up right
where the last one leaves off none of this 15 or 20 years later stuff.
Characters always consistent and interesting.
I hope Carlos gets to meet his Lilith and go thru a passage so we can have a lot more of this group.
I hope not a whole year before next book. But well worth the wait.

I have 3 Indie Authors whose books I buy the moment I am told they are
available on Amazon. Dana Donovan is one of them. I stalk his
facebook page to find out when his next book is being released. I love
Lilith's strong independent attitude but she is not afraid to show her
vulnerability. I love books about witches and there is always plenty of
witchy stuff going on in his books to make me happy. I love all his
characters and their interactions with each other. There also is always
a mystery involved that needs to be solved, another of my favorite
things to read about. I love Tony because he can hold his own with
Lilith, he is as strong as she is and I adore Carlos, he makes me laugh
and I would want him as my best friend.

This review is from: Return Of The Witch (Detective Marcella Witch's series. Book 9) (Kindle Edition)
There are a few authors who are writing series that I can't wait for
their next sequel to be released. Dana Donovan is one of those authors.
His Detective Marcella Witch's series drew me in with book one and I
have been a fan ever since. This latest book did not disappoint. We
got to see a softer, vulnerable side to the strong independent Lilith.
We watch as Ursula comes into her own. From the title I had a
preconceived idea who returned but one should never assume. Reading the
first few chapters my heart broke with Lilith. I am a huge fan of
books about witches and if you love a good witch read get Dana's books.
However if you are new to the world of Lilith, Tony, Carlos, Ursula and
Dominick I recommend you start with book 1 and read all 9 in order you
will be glad you did.

Book 7 in the Detective Marcella Witch's series is what I'd call a
terrific book. The story is intriguing, some new characters are
introduced, old characters continue to grow and amaze me, and the
who-dun-it baffled me to the end. I love a mystery and while I usually
trend toward "thrillers" more than just "mysteries", this series by Dana
Donovan is completely irresistible to me. I love these characters
every bit as much as some of my beloved friends! There's laughter, tears, surprise, and recognition in every chapter! I'm feeling pangs of withdrawal because there are no more in the series--YET. Please, Mt. Donovan, write more!!!!

#3, then #4---you get the idea. What you need to know is this:
Donovan's Witch's series gets better and better!! I would be thrilled
if each book was just as good as the one before....but they get BETTER.
This one is a surprise in one respect, you get to "hear" the story from
multiple viewpoints. At first I thought, "what?" but then settled in
and enjoyed all the different views immensely. Thank you Mr. Donovan!!!

I finished the 3rd book, and had to put down my nook. My family
wouldn't eat take out another day.... I'm addicted to Dana Donovan! I
love the direction the series is taking. I look forward to picking up
the next book and continuing.I had to recharge my nook to finish reading this!!! I couldn't put it down! I loved the characters! Dana wrote well, establishing good character images. I originally was just going to check out the free book, but hate to read the 2nd book in a series so opted to drop the $3 for the first book first. I went back and bought the other 5 in the series before reading the free second! I'll pick up her other free standing book after I finish the series this weekend!
I hope you have a delivery service for food because you are not going to want to put these down!

"Brilliant!!" I've always been a fan of movies that have unexpected endings with a twist, only until the "Eye of the Witch" i was able to find a book with writing of such brilliance that played in my mind like if i was watching a movie. This book is awesome since the first page. I would like to take this moment to ask the author not to stop here, there is so much more, I'll be checking for the 3rd book, please email me at mmartinez@usa.com with news.

THE WITCH'S LADDER
The Witches Ladder is the first of Dana Donovan’s paranormal mystery series starring Detective Tony Marcella. A group of young people with psychic abilities meet at the New England Institute for Research of Paranormal and Unexplained Phenomena, where under the guidance of Dr. Peter Leiberman, they conduct experiments and research in the realms of supernatural ability. When one of them is murdered, Detective Marcella and his partner Carlos Rodriguez are called to the scene. The murder victim was viciously slain and his liver removed, and Marcella suspects a cult is involved. When another of the group dies at the hands of the Surgeon Stalker, the rest decide to take matters into their own hands and carry out their own investigation, with horrific results. Distrust and suspicion escalate and more of the group die. On whose side is beautiful witch Lilith Adams? Why does she give Marcella a Witches Ladder charm?
Marcella needs more than good old-fashioned police work to solve this case, Not only must he understand the supernatural abilities of the suspects, he must become a believer, and trust the power of the Witches Ladder.
Donovan uses the multiple person narrative mode, which isn’t for everyone, but in this case it works. There is a gritty, old-school, Sam Spade feel to Marcella‘s narration which made me immediately like the man. As the main protagonist, he’s a stand-up guy. At the beginning, as you meet the various characters, the pace of the plot is leisurely, punctuated by instances of eerie suspense, but as the story progresses the pace picks up, racing toward the climax. I’m one of those annoying people who can’t watch a mystery movie or read a “whodunnit” without knowing who did it almost from the beginning, but I had NO idea where this plot was going. This is a good first novel in what promises to be an exciting series (which, by the way, is already written.)
Rated R for gruesome murder scenes

I continue to seek thrills from authors like Troy Taylor and any other genius author exploring the supernatural. I can now add Dana E. Donovan to my list of favorites.
Abandoned revolves around a character named Mike Riley. Right from the start, Mike begins telling his story to the reader in a very passive voice, but Donovan does a great job of keeping the reader intrigued while they learn the back-story of Riley’s life and why it is so important. Here’s an intense cliff hanger right on page one…
All right then, where do I start? Do I begin on that hot August day when I returned to the house in which I spent my summers as a child? Perhaps I should tell you about the first time I realized the house was haunted? Better yet, maybe I need to go all the way back to the day I killed my little brother, Patrick. But no, I’m not ready to talk about that. Not yet anyway.
What follows is a detail of Mike’s days growing up with his brother Patrick and being raised by his grandmother. Donovan’s writing has a nice “Our Town” feel to it. He has a keen eye for detail that really paints a picture of the setting of the story, New Castle. The only problem the story suffers from at this point is maybe a bit too much detail as this story weighs in at over 600 pages.
After thirty years, Mike returns to his grandmother’s farmhouse. Like many of those tortured souls horror fans love to read about and connect with, Mike has been struggling with what happened to his brother and he hopes that by reconnecting to the place he loved so much as a child, he will learn to accept his past and be able to move forward. But as Mike will soon learn, his past is not the only thing that’s haunted.
There are odd noises at night in the old farmhouse. Furniture moves across the room all by itself. Mike hears voices although he’s all alone. Or is he? This house would be a paranormal investigator’s dream come true. Donovan’s vivid details really pay off in some of these scenes where Mike begins to explore what is happening. Mike soon discovers that Grandmother’s old farmhouse is actually haunted by the ghost of his brother Patrick, and Patrick is not very happy that Mike has returned.
What follows is an intense struggle between the two brothers to resolve the anger and distance between them, but that’s a little hard to do when Patrick is in the afterlife and wants Mike dead as well. The author has plotted his story out very well, and as I said, it contains all the key elements that a book of this genre needs to capture an audience. Abrupt cliff hangers to keep you interested, a taste of foreshadowing, and certainly lots of eerie moments to send chills down your spine, readers who enjoy a good scare then this book is for you.
I recall a scene early on where Mike comforts Patrick as a child over a ghost story which their Grandmother told them to keep them from playing near the well. Nuances of the spirit world like this, sprinkled throughout the brother’s life together on earth, create a nice balance with Mike’s reactions to meeting his brother as a ghost later. The emotional reaction from Patrick (as a ghost) toward his brother Mike really help to support the overall story, again echoing the supernatural elements Donovan has presented his characters with as children. In other words, Donovan’s story of this conflict between man and ghost is actually believable and not too over the top.
Great story, not a slow moment, the characters are very well
established and Patrick was so cool, one moment you laugh at his crazy
deeds and the other you couldn't resist the little sucker!!. Very cool
ending. I recommend it 100%
SKINNY:
....There is much to like about Skinny. Dana Donovan’s writing is brisk and assured, and he instills the entire novel with an unnerving sense of otherness. John Beckman is a sympathetic and smart narrator. The people of Plenty, though somewhat bumbling, are truly menacing. And the action scenes, as the hero tries desperately to escape from Plenty, are clearly rendered and nerve-racking....
:
"This was just too out there!" I enjoyed this. The idea, the blurb to get me in--all well done...
